Hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, there are daily docent guided tours, at 1, 2, & 3pm. Learn about the original Native American tribes that resided in Broward county before the colonial settlers. Be guided through South Florida’s pioneering history, which began with the introduction of Henry Flagler’s railroad and the creation of the first three forts built along the New River by Major William Lauderdale in 1896. Originally, the Tequesta People lived along the New River and the Miccosukee migrated to the southern part of the Everglades in the 18th and 19th century. Come explore the fascinating history that is peppered with scandal and intrigue.
